CHALLENGE
Our challenge was to create a motivational poster. These are often cheesy or have a message that isn’t creative or even motivational. We have all seen a poster that says “think outside the box”, and that is not a bad thing to be reminded of, but it comes across as cliche for sure. I think that cliche can work, especially in a challenge like this where it might be difficult to avoid it.
PROCESS
I began by collecting letters from magazines and documenting them. I also used scraps and shapes that were not letters alongside true letters to create a message for my poster. Lastly I hand wrote some messages. Then I played around with these elements to find a visually effective means for conveying my message, making mistakes along the way.

FINAL POSTER
After a few experiments I had decided that I wanted to leave it relatively bare of graphic elements to showcase the imperfect typography.
The final poster utilizes some motion blur and a few lines to highlight a few words and break up the rhythm. The last line of text does not have blur and this makes it feel more quiet and comforting, helping convey the message that it is okay to make mistakes.
